Minimizing Methane Emissions, Maximizing Efficiency
The Catalytic Methane Abatement System (CMAS) from ETTER Engineering and The Metan Group is designed to significantly reduce fugitive methane emissions—by up to 85%—while improving oil production efficiency. Powered by a platinum catalyst, CMAS safely converts methane into CO2 and water vapor, without the need for external power. This FM-approved system is perfect for Class 1 Division 1 environments, making it a reliable and effective solution for methane mitigation in the oil and gas sector.

A Sustainable Solution for Oil Production and the Environment
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) more than 70 times greater than CO2 over a 20-year period. During oil and gas production, methane is often unintentionally released through surface casing vents or pneumatic controls, contributing significantly to climate change, poor air quality, and global warming.
CMAS offers a cutting-edge solution to combat these emissions. Leveraging a platinum-based catalyst, CMAS effectively converts methane into harmless CO2 and water vapor.
- Outdoor Installation: Designed for outdoor environments, CMAS units operate continuously without requiring on-site electrical power.
- FM-Approved: Certified for Class I, Division I hazardous locations.
- Plug & Play: Delivered as a complete, easy-to-install unit, ensuring quick deployment and seamless integration.
By converting methane emissions into CO2 and water vapor, CMAS not only reduces emissions but also enhances operational efficiency. This is a win-win for both the environment and oil production.

Surface Casing Vent Capture
CMAS addresses the major source of methane emissions from surface casing vents by capturing and mitigating gas buildup, preventing leaks and reducing atmospheric methane.
Pneumatic Control Conversion
CMAS works seamlessly with pneumatic controls to convert methane into CO2 and water vapor, further reducing environmental impact while enhancing production efficiency.
Enhanced Oil Production
Beyond just mitigating methane emissions, CMAS contributes to the overall efficiency of oil production, improving overall operational performance and profitability.

2024 Field Tests Prove CMAS Achieves 99.7% Methane Reduction Efficiency
We are thrilled to announce the results of our Spring 2024 field testing trials conducted by the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC). Presented at the PTAC Methane Leadership Summit by Tyler Homan, VP of Production at TEINE Energy, the testing revealed a remarkable Destruction Efficiency (DE) of 99.7% in methane reduction. This incredible performance surpassed expectations and rivaled that of traditional combustors, all while offering a significantly lower cost for equipment and installation.
The field trials confirmed that CMAS can achieve up to 95% DE even in less rich gas environments, resulting in a 91% reduction in Greenhouse Gas Warming Potential. The testing proves CMAS’ exceptional capability in effectively mitigating methane emissions within the oil and gas industry.
